The Hipot - CNV Tool is a communication aid designed to assist individuals who are unable to express themselves due to illness or language barriers. The application combines pictograms with synthesized speech to facilitate understanding. Originally developed for hospital settings, particularly for patients with aphasia or in Intensive Care Units, it also functions effectively as a portable translator for non-native speakers in various environments.

The platform offers text support in nine languages: Spanish, Catalan, Euskara, Galician, English, French, German, Chinese, and Arabic, enhancing its accessibility across diverse user groups.

The initial version features over 100 sets of images and words, organized according to healthcare-related categories based on Functional Patterns. Each set includes an icon accompanied by both male and female voice options to ensure inclusivity and clarity.

The concept, design, and voice sets—particularly within the Nursing Care domain—are credited to Manuel Verdugo Paez and are licensed under Creative Commons. This work was recognized as the Best Project (poster format) at the Sixteenth National Congress Infors@lud 2013 and the Congress of Nursing Informatics (Inforenf) held in Madrid, Spain, in 2013.

The audio content utilized within the application has been generated through voice synthesis software created and recorded by Manuel Verdugo Paez. The visual elements consist of graphics created by Maria Jose Izquierdo Malmierca and Manuel Verdugo Paez, all under Creative Commons licensing agreements.
